OSU's Research Conflict of Interest (RCOI) Program and federal Financial Conflicts of Interest (FCOI) regulations requires OSU-affiliated investigators (also known as "covered persons") to disclose their financial interests to OSU and complete training on related investigator responsibilities, federal regulations, and university policy.

Research COI Program - Training Requirements

Do I need to complete the Research COI training?

If your affiliation with OSU is described below, then yes, you must complete OSU-affiliated COI training at least once every 4 years.

  1. Any person who is an active Investigator
  2. Any person with responsibility for a significant aspect of the design, conduct, outcomes, or reporting of research affiliated with OSU
  3. Any person affiliated with OSU, upon request by their supervisor, unit head, dean, research COI officer or other appropriate university administrator.

How often must I complete the Conflict of Interest training?

Research COI training must be completed at least once every four years as a general standard.

However, training could be required more frequently; for example, when the university's research COI policy is revised, when a person is non-compliant with OSU's Policy on  or their COI management plan, and upon request by their supervisor, unit head, dean, COI officer or other appropriate university administrator.

How do I complete this training?

OSU sponsors a free, online Conflict of Interest training course on the CITI Program website, which is accessible using OSU's single-sign on system.  CITI registration is required for first-time users, and users must choose the course(s) they want or need to complete (such as Conflicts of Interest) and add them to their account.

A CITI user guidance document is available for the OSU community here.

Note that successful completion of the CITI research COI course requires individuals to answer all quiz questions correctly, and quizzes may be re-taken as needed prior to exiting the completed course.

If you have additional questions about the CITI training requirement or course, contact us at: COI@oregonstate.edu or (541) 737-2762.

Other Training Opportunities

Research Conflict of Interest presentations are available upon request.  Topics for presentations or discussions include: A primer on conflicts of interest in research, How to satisfy OSU RCOI requirements, and How to Manage an RCOI.  If you would like a RCOI Program representative to give a presentation or facilitate a discussion, please contact the RCOI Administrator, at COI@oregonstate.edu or (541) 737-2762.
