Kyle NeumannOSU senior Kyle Neumann had dived recreationally for years, but felt he needed to improve his underwater skills.

“When I heard OSU was offering a science diving class, I leaped at the opportunity,” Neumann said. “Diving in the Northwest is often dark and cold with strong surges and limited visibility. To conduct science in these conditions, your basic dive skills have to become second nature.

“The class vastly improved my skills and gave me confidence – and certification.”

Since then, Neumann has worked on multiple research dives off the coast and in July he will join the vessel Nautilus on a month-long mission to document unstudied research sites.
