In 2011 Aleksandra Sikora started a promising research program as a new faculty member in the College of Pharmacy, but it involved work with dangerous pathogens such as cholera and gonorrhea. Innovative ways to tackle those diseases are already being developed, and the EH&S office helped make that possible. “Matt Philpott’s assistance really went beyond my expectations,” Sikora said. “He helped set up the Biosafety Level 2 facility that we needed, reviewed all the procedures, came to the lab numerous times to get things organized, and even helped me find a used, but good quality biological safety cabinet at a low cost.”
