Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for agreeing to serve on the University-Industry Partnership Phase 2 Design Team. The UIP Design Team will design and propose a plan for a central administrative function to support the cultivation and stewardship of partnerships between OSU and industry. The plan will include the following elements: vision and mission, recommended structure and staffing, and an implementation plan with phasing. In the course of developing the proposal, the team will evaluate similar practices at leading R1 universities. It will also define the value proposition of advancing robust industry partnerships for OSU and the state of Oregon and evaluate the return on investment (ROI) for a centralized function.

Key tasks for the planning team include:

• Identify the scope of a UIP Blueprint.
• Research institutional leaders in pivotal strategic decision areas.
• Select a strategy to optimize OSU’s ROI and develop/define the value proposition for OSU and the state of Oregon.
• Design the OSU UIP Blueprint.
• Review the UIP Blueprint with university leadership.
• Identify the implementation responsibilities, resources and organizational structure.
• Write the UIP Blueprint proposal.
• Support OSU’s decision process on the proposal, strategic framework and spending plan.

Key milestones include:

• Develop a UIP Blueprint that optimizes OSU’s ROI and the value proposition for OSU and the state of Oregon (May 2023) in the area of university-industry partnerships.
• Review the UIP Blueprint with university leadership (June 2023).
• Support OSU’s decision process on the proposal, strategic framework and spending plan (Fall 2023).
