Oregon State University community members,
I am pleased to announce that research grant funding awarded Oregon State University faculty and their staff and students rose 15% last year, nearly matching the university’s highest level of research grant activity ever.
Congratulations on recording an amazing $439.7 million in research grants and contracts for the 2019 fiscal year – an amount that is $1.3 million less than the university’s best-ever research year. We are exceedingly proud that OSU continues to be our state’s leading comprehensive research university.
The impacts of OSU research reach worldwide through initiatives such as potential new cancer treatments, a new Global Hemp Innovation Center and collaboration among scientists and the fishing industry to address ocean acidification that is threatening the well-being of the world’s coral reefs and shellfish industries. For more details about FY19 research results, please read the university’s news release.
I am continually inspired by the work that takes place every day throughout the university. Oregon State’s collaborative research culture distinguishes our faculty and underlies their worldwide achievements and contributions at home and abroad. Our community comes together to solve the most pressing problems facing our state, the nation and the world. And the results of our collective work lead to a healthier, more prosperous and sustainable future for all.
Congratulations again on this remarkable achievement. I look forward to working with you and contributing to the continued research success of the university and its faculty, staff and students.
Irem Y. Tumer
