Biomedical Science Grants
The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation supports early-stage biomedical investigators engaged in basic and translational research that has the potential to make fundamental advances in biomedical science.

The funds are designed to provide to tenure track faculty members in their first to fourth year, at American Institutions, who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees, start-up support to move the project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained. Applicants with current R01 funding should not apply.

Beginning in 2023, the grant provides $75,000 annually for a period of up to three years. Grants are not renewable. The Foundation will not fund overhead.

LIMITATIONS ON SUBMISSIONS: Institutions may submit one proposal per session.

To notify Oregon State University of your of your interest in submitting a proposal to this opportunity, please fill out the InfoReady form that includes:

  • Descriptive Title
  • Project Summary: 3 or 4 sentences or bullet points that provide an overview of the project objectives.
  • Key PI/co-PIs: 5 or 6 sentences or bullet points that highlight team expertise as it relates to the project.
  • Budget Summary: Example: The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $ X, with $ Y being requested from the Agency. Agency funds will be used for: $ A for personnel; $ B for operations, and $ C for broader impacts/subcontracts etc. Please outline your plan to meet the cost share requirements of the solicitation.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION (1 page) - please use an 11 point or higher font with one-inch margins.

Problem statement: Clear and concise statement of:

  • Research question(s) and how the project will address the research question(s);
  • Proposed activities: Describe the project to be undertaken and provide the technical specifications of the research activities and timelines that will be undertaken.
  • How the proposed research can lead to the advancement of research/knowledge in this area.
  • Expected results: Describe the outcome you anticipate from the research.
  • Abbreviated CV or biographical sketch of the principal investigator – separate page
  • Optional - Suggest one or two names to serve on the internal review committee.
