REQUEST FOR APPLICATION Secondary Education, Two-Year Postsecondary Education, and Agriculture in the K-12 Classroom Challenge Grants Program (SPECA)

• Internal Letter of Intent Deadline: Monday, December 14, 2020, 5 pm (pst).   
• Agency Deadline:  Thursday, February 4, 2021 - 5:00 PM Eastern Time

Purpose and Priorities

The purpose of the SPECA program is to award grants to:

1. Enhance the quality of K-14 instruction in order to help meet current and future national food and agricultural sciences workplace needs

2. Increase the number and diversity of students who will pursue and complete a 2 or 4-yeardegree in the food and agricultural sciences.

3. Promote and strengthen secondary education and 2-year postsecondary education in agriscience and agribusiness in order to help ensure the existence in the United States of a qualified workforce to serve the food and agricultural sciences system; and

4. Promote complementary and synergistic linkages among secondary, 2-yearpostsecondary, and higher education programs in the food and agricultural sciences in order to promote excellence in education and encourage more young Americans to pursue and complete a baccalaureate or higher degree in the food and agricultural sciences.
 

Internal Applications must include the following:

COVER SHEET: (1-2 pages)

• Your name, OSU position, home department, email, and OSU contact information
• The name of this funding opportunity and title of your proposal
• Project Type: Regular, Collaborative Grant Type 1, or Collaborative Grant Type 2)
• Collaborator names, positions, and institutions (if any).  Key PI/co-PIs:  5 or 6 sentences or bullet points that highlight team expertise as it relates to the project.
• Budget:  Example:  The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $ X, with $ Y being requested from the NSF.  NSF funds will be used for: $ A for personnel; $ B for operations, and $ C for broader impacts/subcontracts etc. 
• Indicate whether or not you have submitted to this program in the past. If so, please provide a copy of the review at the end of the internal application.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION (2-3 pages)

•  Proposal summary that addresses the program’s specific selection criteria.

• Clear and concise statement of 1) research question(s) and how the project will address the research question(s); 2) what technical barriers need to be overcome to perform the research, and 3) how the proposed research can lead to the advancement of research/knowledge in this area.

• Expected results: Describe the outcome you anticipate from the research.

• One paragraph describing why this proposal should be OSU's submission (i.e., why it will be the most competitive for this program)
