The goals of this solicitation are to:

(i) motivate the creation of researcher-facing CIP communities or affinity groups centered on S&E domains and or geographic regions with shared needs for CIPs;

(ii) improve CIP workforce diversity, productivity, scalability, sustainability, and institutional career paths;

(iii) promote recognition of the value of the CIP workforce to all stakeholders of S&E research;

(iv) support the advancement and exchange of CIP best practices, mentoring and/or professional development and training resources across institutions;

(v) promote understanding of computation as the third pillar and data-driven science as the fourth pillar of scientific discovery.

The general guidance for the preparation of the notice of intent to the Research Office:

COVER SHEET (1 page) -please upload to Infoready as a pdf and use an 11 point or higher font with one-inch margins.

  • Solicitation Name and Descriptive Title
  • Project Summary:  3 or 4 sentences or bullet points that provide an overview of the objective of your proposed project, how you plan to do it, and the expected outcome(s).
  • Key PI/co-PIs:  5 or 6 sentences or bullet points that highlight team expertise as it relates to the project.
  • Budget:  Example:  The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $ X, with $ Y being requested from the Agency.  Agency funds will be used for: $ A for personnel; $ B for operations, and $ C for broader impacts/subcontracts etc.

Problem statement: Clear and concise statement of

  • Program goals and activities
  •  Describe how you will broaden adoption of advanced CI infrastructure and methods.
  • How will this integrate with the Computational Science Support Network (CSSN)?
  • What is your approach to recognizing and democratizing research CIP workforce development?  How is this approach scalable?
  • What is your plan for recruitment and evaluation?
  • How will you achieve "collective impact?" as described in the solicitation.
  • Abbreviated CV or biographical sketch of the principal investigator – separate page
