Brian Wall

Associate Vice President of Research Innovation for Economic Impact
VP for Research

In his role as Oregon State University’s Associate Vice President of Research Innovation for Economic Impact, Mr. Wall oversees OSU Advantage, a unit within the Division of Research and Innovation that supports innovation and entrepreneurship at OSU by providing integrated services and resources, including intellectual property protection, startup programs and industry agreements. Mr. Wall provides leadership and directs operational oversight for innovation and entrepreneurship programs, intellectual property protection and licensing, the execution of corporate agreements, and the Advanced Technologies and Manufacturing Institute.

Mr. Wall also oversees OSU’s University Venture Development Fund effort - a $6M+ donor-based, tax-incentivized program providing funding to support the commercialization of promising university discoveries and emerging startup companies.

Previously, he led the Office for Commercialization and Corporate Development at OSU, as well as holding numerous other roles there since 2001. Mr. Wall created OSU’s first equity policy, negotiated OSU’s first equity license, built a team whose agreements have quadrupled license revenue in the past ten years and another team that has completed agreements generating tens of millions in corporate research, implementing national best practices throughout the office. Perhaps more importantly, this enabled OSU Advantage to build a suite of programs and capabilities that have helped companies form and launch products worldwide, created job opportunities for graduates, and enhanced research relationships and reputation. He also co-developed and launched OSU’s Accelerator as its first Interim Co-Director, bringing ideas to market by connecting innovators and entrepreneurs to the resources they need for successful high-growth startups.

Mr. Wall has a passion for driving university impact through innovation, entrepreneurship, use-inspired research, and building long-term internal and external partnerships.
