When Susan Shaw, director of the School of Language, Culture and Society, needed human subjects approval to move forward with a $3.5 million National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant application, she sought the help of Lisa Leventhal, administrator of OSU’s Institutional Review Board. Leventhal worked with Shaw to meet the grant’s tight deadline. “Right now, IRB approvals are taking about 6 to 8 weeks,” Shaw said. “Lisa found someone to review the application right away, and I had comments back from the reviewer within a week. I made the requested changes, and we had an approval within a few days of that.”
