OSU has a variety of tools available for the remote worker to use for telecommuting
Latest updates and information:
Oregon State University Office of Information Security Secure Remote Work
The basic process for establishing a secure remote connection includes establishing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection. You can also utilize Microsoft Office 365 and other tools remotely. Microsoft office.com, Box, and any web based applications do not require a VPN to access; it is highly recommended to use a VPN in your normal workflow for an enhanced level of security.
In order to connect to the OSU network when not on campus the use of a VPN is required for some applications such as Banner, Appworx, and the Grant Reporting System (GRS).

Information Services has detailed information and links to setting up a VPN.
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop protocol application for Windows or Mac. This is available from both the Microsoft Store and the Apple App store.
- Make sure that you are added to the on campus computer as a remote desktop user (requires admin access).
- Launch the Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) software on your device.
- Enter the server name: computername.tss.oregonstate.edu (computername is the hostname of the device you're connecting to and is located on a label on the top of desktop computers or on the bottom of laptops).
- Save the connection to your desktop.
- Enter your network credentials to authenticate the Remote server.
