Several resources for research involving exercise testing, including VO2max and submax testing, were developed as a collaborative effort between the IRB and faculty in Exercise and Sport Science and the Human Performance Lab.  These tools rely heavily on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines and borrowed extensively from best practices developed by other universities throughout the country.

Note: Once published, the ACSM Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 10th edition, may provide updated information on the ACSM exercise preparticipation health screening process and recommendations.

Risk Stratification Worksheet

This worksheet outlines the participant’s risk factors which impact risk.  It may be utilized to determine the risk level of the study population, as well as to assess and document individual participant risk and study eligibility. Additionally, the required training and supervision of exercise testing for low, moderate, and high risk populations are detailed.

Exercise Test Supervision Competency

This worksheet contains the ACSM recommendations for supervision of exercise tests.  Competencies for both non-clinician and clinicians are included.  This worksheet may be utilized to document the qualifications of study team members.

Sample Health History Questionnaire

All research involving exercise testing should include a health history questionnaire.  This sample incorporates the ACSM recommendations for pre-exercise testing health history.

Exercise Testing Supplement

This document contains special instructions for research involving exercise testing.
